“Establish a Perimeter”
Words that I’m sure ring true with the Blue Bloods, but also every applicable with developing a new product or service. Especially an app.
Determine the perimeters of your app, so you can make strong the most useful and profitable features.
By perimeters, I mean what the app will NOT do. At least in version 1.
The more un-established perimeters, the more vulnerabilities there will be. Which of course makes the core features less powerful/attractive to customers.
A very real current example is Palestine’s sneak attack on Israel this morning. Weak perimeters. Core becomes vulnerable.
For business app development, some examples of perimeters to establish are:
- Who is NOT your target market (location, career type, net worth, gender, age, etc.)
- Features that will not be useful right now, or features that will cost too much to develop, at the sacrifice of the core.
- Who would NOT be a good fit for your leadership team, for instance people that might not have a good bearing on raising cash for the venture.
Things like that will help you to establish and secure a perimeter, for your project, and then work on creating a strong, useful and efficient core that can help the app to expand in features and reach over time.
